Text Box: And behind cork number one—is Carmen Reserve Chardonnay from the Casablanca Valley region. This one is 100% Chardonnay. Vina Carmen was founded in 1850 by Christian Lanz, who named the winery in honor to his beloved wife Carmen. More than a century later, in 1987, the Claro Group acquired the brand to take it into a new direction. In 1992 a new winery was built and new vineyards were planted, to produce the best quality wines from Chile, and export them worldwide. Carmen is globally recognized for its quality and for being a pioneer in the Chilean wine industry. These grapes are selected by hand. Note the intense tropical fruit, aromas of mango, limes and grapefruits are reflected, with touches of toast and vanilla. Bright yellow color. Soft and ripe. A nice concentration with a long finish. Serve this up with cheese, pasta in white sauce, sea bass or any seafood. Retails for $14.99/bottle.
And behind cork number two—is Cousino-Macul Finis Terrae 2003 Chilean Red Wine. This is an excellent First Class Chilean wine. Finis Terrae is a clear reflection of the Maipo Valley terroir expressed through the finest of Cousino’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from each vintage. Founded in 1856, Cousino Macul is the only winery in Chile amongst those established in the 19th century that continues in the hands of the original founding family. The company remains 100% under family control, producing limited quantities of fine wines. The wines are estate grown, estate vented and estate bottled. Bold and impressive!! Initial aroma of blackberries and mocha evolve to reveal scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and light toasty oak. On the palate, this full, thick-bodied wine shows elegance and restraint. Flavors of ripe red berries, vanilla, rosewood and spice surround a solid core of blackberry fruit. It finishes with sweet oak, supple tannins and extraordinary depth, almost chunky in the end. This one tastes delicious now but should age gracefully for a good decade. Will compliment grilled steak, a savory red pasta dish or dark chocolate truffles. This one is berrylicious!!! Retails for $18.99/bottle.
