Text Box: Did you know that there are five major red grapes grown in California. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot and Syrah. We are featuring the Merlot grape this month. We are featuring the Murphy-Goode 2003 Merlot. Here is a Merlot with power and elegance, an intense, fruit-forward wine with the structure and balance to age. Mouthwatering aromas of black cherry, fresh thyme and sweet oak announce the wine’s dense fruit flavors—almost jammy. This Merlot finishes with smooth tannins and appealing oak spice, leaving a memorable impression. Diverse benchland and hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley give us the Merlot grapes with rich texture and ripe, intense fruit flavor, as this wine demonstrates. This luscious wine also has excellent depth. Blending components of 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot, enhance the wine’s structure and complexity. This fine wine won a Silver medal at the 2007 North of the Gate Wine Competition and also a Silver Medal at the Long Beach Grand Cru Competition. Will marry well with a pasta topped with a savory red sauce or a thick juicy steak!! Retails for $19.99/bottle. Enjoy!!
Our next feature is the 2005 Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay. Born in 1930, Jackson was raised in San Francisco and graduated from LC Berkeley’s Boalt Law School. In 1974, Jess and his family bought an 80 acre pear and walnut orchard in Lakeport, California. After converting the orchard to a vineyard. Jess began selling his grapes to local wineries. In 1982, they founded Kendall-Jackson and he produced his first bottle of wine under the Kendall-Jackson label. Jess, a founding member of Family Winemakers of California and his family still run the day to day business of the winery. They continue to produce top quality wines with a single goal in mind—to create extraordinary wines from California’s best vineyards. They are committed to creating the very best wine possible. Tropical flavors of mango, pineapple dance with aromas of peach, apple and pear. Richly layered and balanced throughout. Lightly buttered toast headlines the indulgent, lingering finish. This pairs excellent with shrimp, crab, pork or even banana bread!! Retails for $12.99/bottle.
