Text Box: Our first selection for August is the 2001 Pinot Noir from the Wine Maker Karl Molitor, Hattenheimer Hassel Vineyards. Karl Molitor inherited the estate from his father, Jahann Baptist Molitor, in 1971. New underground cellars, warehouse and house were built in 1975 behind and outside the village of Hattenheim, at the foot of the famous Steinberg vineyard.
This fine wine has a lot going on. It is full of ripe, rich cherry fruit, nuances of aromatic red cedar, and sweet floral aromas of lilac—fantastic body. Black cherries dominate the mouth with a layer of smokey oak and hints of spice. It is a great match with grilled meats. Retails for $14.99.
Our second choice is exceptionally fresh, also from Germany. It is the 2003 Gewuerztraminer from the creative Wine Master Seebrich vineyards of Niersteiner Oelberg. Heinrich Seebrich is carrying on the family’s name of owner, which dates back to the 17th century.
This fine wine is a Gold medal winner. It contains rich fruit and spice flavors are tempered by a fruit forward sweetness. The scent of jasmine flowers perfumes the nose along with apple. Crisp citrus splash the palate with complete refreshment—elegantly smooth. This lively wine is the perfect companion for Appetizers or spicy Asian cuisine. Retails for $15.99.
