Time to go beyond . . . Perhaps you haven’t tried a Russian wine before—are you prepared? Very unique wine—you will absolutely love!! It is so different—but in a very good way. We had to wait for this one to arrive from across the ocean. It is the Tamada Kindzmarauli. This is different from any other wine we’ve ever featured. This is imported from Georgia (part of the former Soviet Union), a small independent state located next to Turkey on the Black Sea coast. In fact, it is known as the birth place of viticulture and wine-making. Archaeologists unearthed fossilized grape leaves, stem pieces, seeds, wine presses, all sorts of wine containers made of clay and metal from Miocene deposits. Archaeologists have found great concentration of ancient grape seeds in Georgia and they date them anywhere between 7000-5000 BC.
100% Saperavi grape. Deep purple color. The nose exhibits soft ripe berry fruit with touches of blackberry and blackcurrant. The palate is rich and soft showing good fruit presence and fullness. The tannins, although present are more than compensated by the rich sweetness of fruit and sugar. This experience is too good not to share. This wine should be consumed within one year to truly enjoy the rich berry tones. You can however, let it mature and it will transform the flavors to a clean port style of wine. Serve with a honey glazed ham or hickory smoked ribs. Retails for $16.99/bottle.
This next one is imported from New Zealand—and will really get your taste buds whistling!! It is the Sacred Hill Sauvignon Blanc from their Marlborough Vineyards. This grape has reached worldwide acclaim—producing some of the finest white wines around the globe. This spunky little number is fresh, crisp and to the point. It is loaded with intense flavors—loaded with pear, apricot and apple. Strong but quiet—with a dry finish. Perfect with shrimp or scallops in a garlic cream sauce or stuffed chicken Marsala. Retails for $16.99/bottle.

Heard it through the grapevine. . .
