Our first selection this month, was just released and is ready to drink now!! It is the Hogue Late Harvest White Riesling. Comes to you from the Columbia Valley in Washington. This Wine Master has developed a style with this fine wine, that includes a moderate level of sweetness, richness, viscosity and crisp balancing acidity with just a hint of complexity. Eastern Washington’s low annual rainfall and cool nights during the growing season make it the perfect area for producing consistently great late harvest wines. It carries aromas and flavors of dried apricot, tangerine and powdered sugar with a hint of cocoa and mint on the finish. Has excellent sugar to acid balance. Treat your Mom on Mother’s Day and serve this one up with the Quiche recipe (on back). She will never forget it!! Also pairs well with Turkey, or a fruit desert. Retails for $8.99/bottle.

Ohhh, now for some Merlot Madness!! This one will stand up against any of the top ranked wines in the world. It is the 2000 Milestone Merlot from the Columbia Winery—from the most celebrated red wine vineyard in Washington. Red Willow lies in the remote northwestern corner of the Yakima Valley Appellation. This one, we have been holding until it became just ‘Perfect’!!! Very nice—slightly dry, Buttery and Velvety (at the same time). Like a big old hug. This one is a aged, Estate, Award Winning Merlot. The structure is outstanding. The berry flavors have been released and the tannins are very low. You can really appreciate a great Merlot or Cab when it has reached its maturity. For the first time ever, this Winery is featuring 100% Merlot, bringing together the best barrels from 5 small, distinct vineyard blocks at Red Willow. Together they produce a lasting memory. Harvested by hand in mid-September, these were the first grapes to ripen in 2000. Notice the bright red ruby color missing—replaced by a darker garnet color (a good sign of maturity). Vibrant cherry fruit complemented by a touch of spicy oak. Full flavored and robust with a velvety texture. Open this one up and let it breathe 10 minutes or so—it will only get better. Great companion to grilled steaks or a savory pasta dish in a red sauce. Retails for $23.99/bottle.
Text Box: This month we are staying stateside and featuring one of the ‘Big Four’ of US Wine Producers. The beautiful state of Washington is one of the major winemaking regions in the United States. In fact, it produces more Riesling than any other state. The four major white grapes grown in Washington are Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. In the 1960’s/70’s, Washington was only known for its Whites. But now it is also known for its great production of Reds—especially Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most recently they have added Syrah into the mix with great results!! So grab your glass and let’s go!!
