Text Box: We have carefully selected Quinta do Noval: 10 Year Old Tawny Port for our first pick this month. Quinta do Noval is situated in the very heart of the Douro Valley, in Northern Portugal—one of the few remaining places of wild and unspoiled beauty in Europe. The vineyards that produce the grapes for this port wine—cling to steep hillsides in the winding valleys of the Douro River and its tributaries. Great port has been produced in the heart of this region by Quinta do Noval since 1715.
Port is a rich, fortified wine from the Douro region of Northern Portugal. It is made by stopping the fermentation process before it is complete, by adding grape spirit or brandy (known as aguardente). Resulting in a higher proof, powerful wine—Woo Woo!! This leaves the wine with natural grape sugar and a ripe fruity flavour.
This wine has a complex aroma, aged in oak casks and taking on characteristics of walnuts, dried fruits and spices, showing increasing intensity of colour, complexity, concentration and depth of flavour. Rich and smooth on the palate and a rich, attractive finish. It can be served slightly chilled as an elegant conclusion to your dinner or as a stand-alone. (Retails for $22.99/bottle).
Now we are going State-side for a smooth and mellow Chardonnay from Bogle Vineyards, located in Clarksburg, California. The Bogle family has been farming since the mid– 1800’s. It was not until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes. In this small farming community nestled along the Sacramento River, the Bogle family’s years of hard work have developed into a impressive grape growing operation, as well as a nationally acclaimed winery. Today, this Vineyard farms over 1200 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region.
To compliment its beautiful golden pear color—this wine has an inviting aroma, suggesting freshly sliced pears and apples, while the delicate, creamy entry, reveals hints of baking spices live cloves and nutmeg, with a buttery aftertaste—ends with a long crisp finish. Will go perfect on Mother’s Day for brunch. (Retails for $9.99/bottle).
