Text Box: Our first taste of excitement this month is the Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. Boschendal is one of the oldest wine producers in the New World, with a French viticultural heritage dating back to 1685. These vines were carefully cultivated high on the eastern slopes of a granite mountainside, allowing for slower ripening and more concentrated fruit. Random samples of grapes on each block were tasted regularly to ensure that they were picked at optimal flavor levels. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Elegant, complex and well balanced. Opulent tropical fruit and pear on the nose. Rich and complex on the palate, with unique herbaceous undertones. Filled with intense tropical fruit flavors, with a long, clean finish. Rated 90 pts—Wine and Spirits magazine. May we suggest serving this with chicken, fish or veal. $17.99/bottle.

Next up—we have some Merlot Madness. This one is coming at you full throttle. It is the Meerlust Merlot from Stellenbosch, South Africa. Meerlust Estate has been part of the Myburgh family tradition for eight generations, dating back to 1693. They have been long recognized for producing world-class wines, singularly rich in charm and history. Meerlust produces wines which are true to the intrinsic character of their vineyards located in the Stellenbosch region. Very intense, almost purple black in colour, very lively and bright. On the nose, juicy plum and mulberry fruit, followed by a pronounced spicyness, cloves and liquorice bouquet. This merlot is full bodied with mouth-filling juicy fruit opulence, creamy richness and very soft, caressing tannins. Pairs well with red meats, game and strong cheeses. Open this one up and let it rest a bit-tightly structured it will release more fruit flavor as it breathes. Will age well. $19.99/bottle.
