Chardonnay from New Mexico?? That’s right. Gruet Chardonnay is like a lush embrace. Bottled at the Gruet Winery located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1984, Gilbert Gruet (known for his fine wines from France), made the decision to plant an experimental vineyard, exclusively planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. This great winemaker started producing award winning wines—putting New Mexico on the wine map!!!! This fine wine is light golden straw in color. Good structure that reveals unbelievable freshness. Ripe and fruity, weaving together complex pear, vanilla citrus and apple flavors with a nice delicate oak finish. Won a silver medal at the World Wine Championships. This one pairs well with anything buttery and rich—seafood would be an excellent choice. Retails for $12.99/bottle.

This next one is a really solid performer. It is the Brandborg Pinot Noir ‘Bench lands’ 2005. Comes from the Umpqua Valley region in Oregon. Showy and forward—low acidity and soft tannins. This wine is clear garnet in color with very pretty floral rose aromas with raspberry, cherry and warm honeyed oak. Strawberry and Queen Ann cherries dominate the flavors with a nice round mouth feel. It has moderate weight with a long lingering caramel finish. This flavorful wine is an easy drinking companion to lighter fair like grilled wild salmon or perhaps your favorite Asian dish. Retails for $20.99/bottle.

I drink to thine eyes,

Beacons so true,

My heart skips a beat,

When I am thinking of you.
